On July 7, 1972, the company was founded by Colette and Alain Schumacher under the name "I.C.S. Luxembourg". The first activities were the selling, programming and maintenance of I.C.S. Berlin office computers. On December 6, 1972, I.C.S. Luxembourg received the first accounting computer ICS 533, probably the first microcomputer imported in Luxembourg. The office computer was equipped with the first commercially available system from INTEL, the CPU 4004.
The company I.C.S. Berlin got problems to finish the initially promised more powerful office computers. To fill this gap, an exclusive contract for the Grand-Duchy of Luxembourg was signed with LogAbax France, which allowed SICAP to distribute and service the LogAbax LX4200 and LX4600 business computers. The first hard disk computer was installed in January 1973. With these computers, SICAP also started a small data processing activity for payroll and accounting, mainly for accounting firms.
In July 1974, the name was changed to "SOCIETE POUR L'INFORMATIQUE COMMERCIALE APPLIQUEE". The abbreviation SICAP came into use and was officially introduced in the company's Articles of incorporation in July 1980.
In 1980, the company began a second field of activity in data transmission for financial institutions. A first contract with AP-Dow Jones Telerate was signed in 1980, and the first customers went live in Luxembourg on December 15, 1980.
The task included data distribution and technical aspects on the customer side. Later, an extension of these activities was agreed with "Quotron", "Bloomberg", "AP" and "Bridge". SICAP was the only authorized company in the world to participate in the Telerate-ATT joint venture TTS (The Trading System) to run the data transmission and technical equipment on the customer side.
In 2004, SICAP, together with its subsidiary SICAP R&D, began to develop the field of random number generation and cryptography using AHS-RNG and RPP-OTP. In 2006, these patent applications were presented in Geneva at the International Exhibition of Inventions, New Techniques and Products. From 2004 to 2016, the older activity areas were gradually shut down, and this research and development is actually the only activity of SICAP and SICAP R&D.
Nevertheless, there is an interest for a good partnership in scientific research and commercial applications.
